If you or your loved one are history enthusiasts, do not hesitate and embark on an adventurous journey to the opal treasure! During 5 hours in the underground, you will explore the most interesting corners of the 35-kilometre-long corridors and try to extract a precious gem using the same tools used 150 years ago. The research always starts at 10:00 a.m.
Spend your first hour on a tour of the basic circuit, followed by a short break. During the event, you will prepare to enter the other areas of the mine, which are accessible only with a guide (checking equipment, lights, shoes, clothes, water or food).
Start your 4-hour exploration by entering the adit Joseph, one of the two main adits, which was used as communication (miners walked through it carrying the material needed for working in the mine). The guide will show you the way underground transportation and explain how miners at workplaces have divided. You will then descend in the mezanine, where they will acquaint you with the excavation of these spaces performed by the Egger brothers.
In the mine, you will see many peculiarities, including several secondary minerals. You will spend the last hour of the tour by really looking for opals and then descend to the second main adit Viliam. What is waiting for you here? Let yourself be surprised!
In the Slovak opal mines, there is a constant temperature from + 4° C to + 6° C, so it is necessary to ensure warm clothing and quality solid footwear. You won’t regret if you bring something to eat. 😊.
